1 Djembe (African Drum)
Used throughout West Africa in ceremonial dances and celebrations, particularly by the Mandigo and Susu. The base is carved from tree trunks; the head is made of goatskin. The djembe is hollow and the bottom is open in order to produce the distinctive sound. The larger djembe shown is 3 feet tall with a diameter of 15". The smaller drum is one and a half feet and 12" in diameter.
